Diana and the Whispering Woods

Once upon a time, in a quiet village nestled beside a vast, mysterious forest, lived a spirited little girl named Diana. She had bright, curious eyes, bouncy curls, and a heart full of questions. Diana loved to explore, but she didn’t like rules—especially the one her parents always repeated:

“Never go into the Whispering Woods alone.”

The forest was old and deep, and the villagers believed it was enchanted. Trees whispered in the wind, and shadows danced even when there was no light. But Diana thought grown-ups were just trying to scare her.

One sunny morning, while the village prepared for a festival, Diana saw her chance. Slipping on her red boots, she crept past the garden gate and tiptoed into the woods. At first, it was exciting. Birds chirped overhead, and flowers she'd never seen before peeked out from behind mossy rocks.

But soon, the trees grew taller, the air colder. Whispers floated through the branches:

“Turn back, Diana… turn back…”

She laughed. “Silly trees! I’m not scared.”

Suddenly, the forest changed. Roots slithered out like snakes and wrapped around her boots. Vines swayed above like warning fingers. A great owl swooped down and perched on a low branch.

“You did not listen,” it hooted. “The forest protects itself.”

Diana’s heart thumped. “I didn’t mean to! I’m sorry!”

The owl blinked, then nodded. The roots uncurled. Diana bolted from the woods, not stopping until she reached her front door.

That evening, Diana hugged her parents tightly. “I’ll listen from now on,” she whispered.

From that day forward, Diana still explored—but only with permission, and never alone.

Moral: Listening to those who care for you can keep you safe from dangers you might not yet understand.
